Released at Lobotomia 2002 and ranked 8th, AH-CMC is my Kewlers debut and one of Curly‘s first forays into OpenGL.
The song, titled ‘Diesel’, started out as a “let’s record this” type of (in-the-mode) fun thing. I was visiting Mel (Function) to record some synth parts from my Yamaha CS-01 for other tunes and, while at it, I started mucking around with some low LFO’d filter wobbles. We decided to record a couple of clips over a heavy kick drum and these then guided the way towards heavy industrial-ish techno feel of the tune.
Some might say that the lazy manually synced wobbles and the squealing sample from Pakotin are what set the overall mood, but my pick is definitely the sound effects sourced from Dr. Snuggles theme (video below). Temporarily stuck trying to figure out where to take the tune, it was hilarious slapping the Snuggles stuff on top only to realize that they actually add to the industrial feel! Whole different context, but the sounds still manage to add a not-so-serious vibe to the song.
