Yet another edition of friendly encounters on the ‘hills’ passed by.
This year’s Assembly summer was all in all a pretty mellow experience for me, although I enjoyed afterparty the most. Must be getting old or something.. A definite highlight was meeting Zden of Satori in person for the first time, as ‘Incyber’ (video below) is one of my all-time favourite demoscene releases. On the release side, I had entries for Fast Music and Streaming Music compos (player links at the end of this post).
Fast Music compo turned out a bit too ‘fast’ this time around, hence the title ‘Well This Was Fast’. It took me a good while to get going, and so the allotted time (1.5 hours) was almost over by the time I had a very basic structure together. Lucky me I still had enough time to add the ‘Acen bleep thing’ towards the end, as it gives the song a little energy.
As for Music compo, I seriously hoped ‘Do It Nao’ would’ve fared better than it did. Oh well.. I somehow always consider this compo a bit bland, there rarely are any entries that’d get me really excited. It’s also somewhat ‘conservative’ in the sense that a certain genre selection always seems to get through preselection, as if there was a quota of “we need one representative from each genre”. Without getting too carried away with the analysis, with ‘Do It Nao’ I wanted to bring ‘something else’ to the compo. Something that makes you wanna jam along and is electronic, minimal but retains a certain organic funky feel.. The sloppy Arp Odyssey solo included!
Booth Jam was definitely most fun of the lot. Me, Truck and kb decided to arrange a live demo-making session at Scene Booth during saturday, as such programme is what the Booth needs more. I’ll save details about the session to this separate post though. I hope to see this programme on future parties too, would make a good tradition.
That’s about it, Incyber and some photos!
I have kb and Rasputina singing ‘Final Countdown’ on video and you don’t!Booth Jam
