After taking a few years off, Icons (the demoparty) returned to Helsinki last weekend. This time around the party was arranged as a single-day event and given a very downtown location: Dubrovnik lounge & lobby from the Andorra cultural complex. Even the movie theater was in use, and it proved out a stylish environment for all the demos. Something a little different to break the norm, for sure.
I volunteered to help out with audio hardware stuff, like setting up gear for the bands Monolith Resistor and Get Me, and coordinating all this work kept me busy well into the evening. Didn’t really have much time left for hanging around, but managed to catch the premiere of Moleman 2 (trailer of sorts way down below) and most of the compos nonetheless. On the other hand, the party place was seriously lacking attendance during the daytime, so there wasn’t much people to hang around with.. Guess this had a lot to do with a “too convenient” location and so, people took their time to head over.
But whatever, the place started packing up by the time Monolith Resistor was about to hit the stage.
The other band, Get Me, played over the VJ compo. Despite the compo itself suffered from technical difficulties and I only had the chance for a proper soundcheck at the start of the set, Get Me rocked big time.. Even enough for me to get slightly carried away behind the mixing desk (sorry once again, guys)!
Release-wise, there was ‘Proton-K‘ by Kewlers. I didn’t feel like entering the tune to music compo by itself, so it was “no entry” since I-can’t-recall-when. I did participate to the photo compo though:
All-in-all, considering the combination of Icons and Dubrovnik, there remained much party details to improve on. Nothing too critical there though, I’m sure that eg. having a bit more staff would help with the short-comings. I certainly hope to see more demoparties at the same location!
